2016 GMAC Community Needs Assessment

On behalf of the Grants Management Advisory Committee (GMAC), the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Grant Management Unit (GMU) surveyed the public for help in identifying future priorities for the Fund for a Healthy Nevada (FHN). This Community Needs Assessment project was conducted through an online survey, a paper survey, and public forums held in Reno, Carson City, Elko, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas. Participants were asked to rank the needs in their communities as described below.

How Would You Rank the Needs of Nevada Residents?

Information that is already available tells us that Nevada residents are most in need of help with the services listed below. We are seeking validation of these findings by asking Nevadans to rank the services in order of what they think is most important. Please share your opinion by taking our survey and/or attending a public forum.

  • Dental Care
  • Education
  • Emergency Services
  • Employment
  • Health Care
  • Help Finding Information
  • Housing
  • Hunger / Food
  • Protective Services
  • Substance Abuse Services
  • Support for Persons with Disabilities and their Caregivers
  • Transportation

Next Steps

Results of the survey and public forums will be tabulated by GMU staff in early May. A GMAC subcommittee will review the results and bring recommendations to the full GMAC committee at its June 9th meeting. No later than June 30th, the full committee will submit recommendations for future funding priorities to the DHHS Director. The Community Needs Assessment is one of three processes that will be taken into consideration when the State is determining future FHN funding plans. The Commission on Aging (CoA) and the Commission on Services for Persons with Disabilities (CSPD) are also collecting input and will make recommendations to the DHHS Director. This work is being conducted in accordance with Nevada Revised Statute (NRS) 439.630.
