Division of Health Care Financing and Policy Announces Selection of Four Health Plans for Nevada Medicaid Managed Care Enrollees

Program will improve access to high quality care

Carson City, NV - January 05, 2017

Marta Jensen, Acting Administrator for the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services Division of Health Care Financing and Policy (DHCFP) today announced the selection of four health plans to administer health care services for the approximately 460,000 Nevada Medicaid enrollees participating in managed care – Aetna Better Health of Nevada, Amerigroup, Health Plan of Nevada and Silver Summit Health Plan. “DHCFP is committed to focusing on groups of individuals and considering the many elements that, in addition to healthcare services, contribute to a person’s health,” said Ms. Jensen. “We are excited to work with these organizations as we continue to improve population health in Nevada.”

The approval of the four Managed Care contracts by the Board of Examiners at the December 2016 meeting enables DHCFP to improve the value Nevada receives for the dollars spent in Medicaid Managed Care including increased choice of plans for recipients, pay for performance, the ability to strengthen sanctions, quality incentives, and incorporation of person centered planning and system of care principles.

Open enrollment will begin April 1, 2017 and additional information will be forthcoming. “We have made many key changes to ensure Nevada Medicaid members are getting better coordinated health care and customer service from their Medicaid plan. We are confident we have selected the best managed care entities to meet or exceed these expectations,” said Jensen.

Managed Care is a health care delivery system organized to manage cost, utilization, and quality. Medicaid managed care provides for the delivery of Medicaid health benefits and additional services through contracted arrangements between state Medicaid agencies and managed care organizations (MCOs) that accept a set per member per month (capitation) payment for these services.
