Carol
Sala has served as Administrator of the Division for Aging
Services (DAS) since January 2003. She oversees
approximately 180 employees in the Division and an annual
budget of approximately $40 million.
The
Division for Aging Services is responsible for managing
federal funds appropriated to through the Nevada the Older
Americans Act. In addition, DAS staff investigates elder
abuse, neglect, exploitation, and isolation; provides
community-based services to help seniors maintain their
independence through the management of three Medicaid
waivers; and manages the Senior Citizens Property Tax
Assistance Program, Long-term Care Ombudsman Program,
Independent Living Grants, Senior Ride Program, and Aging
and Disability Resource Centers.
In recognition of her commitment to improving the quality of
life for seniors in Nevada, Carol received the Thelma Clark
Community Service Award in October 2005.
Carol, who was selected as a Nevada delegate to the 2005
White House Conference on Aging, serves on the Board of
Examiners for Long Term Care Administrators, Trust Fund for
Public Health, Assistive Technology Council, Rural/Frontier
Women’s Health Coordinating Centers Advisory Committee,
Workforce Investment Board Subcommittee on the Employment of
Persons with Disabilities, and provides staff oversight for
the Nevada Commission on Aging and the Strategic Plan for
Senior Services Accountability Committee.
Prior to
her appointment as DAS Administrator, Carol was Chief of the
Community-based Care program, and was a Social Work
Supervisor in the Division for Aging Services. Her 22-year
career with state also includes working as a social worker
in Child and Family Services and in the Nevada State Welfare
Division.
Carol
earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from the
University of California, Berkeley. She is a licensed
Social Worker in the state of Nevada.
