Diane J. Comeaux has served as Administrator of the
Division of Welfare and Supportive Services (DWSS) since
January 2012. She oversees approximately 1,250 employees
and an annual budget of approximately $250 million,
which represents for the third largest program budget
within the Department of Health and Human Services.
The programs Diane oversees include: the Temporary
Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program,
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
(formerly known as the Food Stamp Program), Child
Support Enforcement Program, Child Care Assistance
Program, Employment and Training Programs for TANF and
SNAP recipients, Energy Assistance Program and
eligibility for Nevada’s Medicaid Program.
Prior to her work at the Division of Welfare and
Supportive Services, Diane served as the Administrator
of the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS)
starting in June 2008. In that position she was
responsible for child protective and welfare service
delivery in rural Nevada, oversight of urban
county-operated child welfare services, children’s
mental health/behavioral health treatment and
residential services in urban Nevada, and statewide
juvenile justice services, including state-operated
training centers and youth parole. DCFS has an annual
operating budget of approximately $215 million with a
workforce of over 1,100 employees.
Diane, who has worked for the State of Nevada for
more than 24 years, previously served as DCFS Deputy
Administrator for Finance and Administration for six
years before being named Chief Financial Officer for the
Nevada Division of Health Care Financing and Policy in
June 2007.
As DCFS Deputy Administrator, Diane was responsible
for directing the activities of the administrative and
financial staff, including personnel services, payroll,
revenue collection, federal financial reporting,
budgeting and accounting, asset management, grants
management, contract administration and statistical
analysis services, and information management.
Diane began her career in state government at the
Department of Taxation before moving to the Department
of Administration’s Budget and Planning Division.
