Nancy K. Ford has
served as Administrator of the Division of Welfare and
Supportive Services (DWSS) since July 30, 2001. She
oversees approximately 1,250 employees in the Division and
an annual budget of approximately $250 million, the third
largest account within the Department of Health and Human
Services.
DWSS includes the Temporary Assistance
for Needy Families (TANF) Program, Food Stamp Program, Child
Support Enforcement Program, Child Care Assistance Program,
Employment and Training Programs for TANF recipients, Energy
Assistance Program. The Division is also responsible for
determining eligibility for Nevada’s Medicaid Program.
Nancy is a current member of the
Interagency Coordinating Council, the Nevada Public Health
Foundation, and the Information Technology Advisory Board.
Prior to he appointment, she served as
the Chief Deputy Attorney General for the Human Resources
Division of the Nevada Attorney General’s Office for 11
years, during which time she provided legal representation
to the Department of Health and Human Services; all agencies
under the Department; the Department of Employment, Training
and Rehabilitation, Director’s Office; and the
Rehabilitation Division. She previously was the Deputy
Attorney General assigned to the Welfare Division. Nancy
received several honors during her career as an attorney
before being appointed Administrator.
Nancy’s leadership has guided the
Division into the 21st century by being one of
the first states to have a debit card available to TANF,
Food Stamp benefit, and Child Support payment clients.
Further, she has promoted considerable advances in the
Information Systems arena to provide employees with better
tools to more successfully serve the Division’s clients.
