Nevada’s website for youth to learn about zoonotic diseases launched

One Health Nevada site announced by Office of State Epidemiology to educate about human-animal diseases

Carson City, NV May 25, 2023

The Office of State Epidemiology (OSE) recognizes the connection between the health of people, animals, and their shared environment. Understanding that diseases can spread between animals and humans, and how to prevent that spread will help keep everyone, including animals, healthy.

One Health Nevada is an interactive website to learn about diseases that are spread between animals and humans and what individuals can do to keep themselves and animals healthy.
The platform is geared for youth involved in 4-H, own pets, or livestock, enjoy hunting, fishing or being outdoors, to find health tips, activities, and educational resources to prevent zoonotic diseases. It also includes features such as an events calendar and blog where youth can submit posts that showcase how they have implemented prevention measures with their 4-H projects, pets, and wildlife.

In addition to the launch of One Nevada Health website, OSE is also looking for a creative logo for One Health Nevada and is announcing the One Health Logo Competition. Youth ages 8-18 have a chance to win a $50 gift card and display their creative talents by drawing, using digital artwork, painting, or any other form of art to create a logo. For application and competition rules and requirements, visit the One Health Nevada logo competition webpage.

One Nevada Health has been made possible through partnerships with the Nevada Department of Agriculture, the Nevada Department of Wildlife, the University of Nevada, along with Reno’s 4-H Cooperative Extension and is funded through a grant from the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists.
