The Office for Consumer Health
Assistance (OCHA) assists consumers of healthcare and injured workers with understanding
their rights and responsibilities under various health care plans and industrial insurance policies. OCHA provides education and advocacy to those who have
insurance through an employer, managed care, individual health policies,
Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Nevada Workers' Compensation,
Medicare or Medicaid. Access to healthcare and prescription medication assistance resources are also provided for the uninsured and under insured.
Housed within OCHA is the Bureau for Hospital Patients (BHP) which mediates, arbitrates and works to resolve medical billing disputes between patients and hospitals/providers.
The Nevada Office of Minority Health and Equity (NOMHE), also located within OCHA, works to improve the quality of healthcare, increases access to healthcare services and disseminates information and education concerning healthcare issues to members of minority groups throughout the State.
