Nevada Gatekeeper Training
The Nevada Gatekeeper Training Program focuses on
four specific populations: Lifespan (general),
Youth, Elderly and Native American. These courses
are designed for various durations: 1¼ hours, 2
hours, 4 hours and 8 hours (Train the Trainer). The
objectives of this training are to increase one’s
knowledge and understanding of suicide, recognize
warning signs, identify risk and protective factors,
increase willingness and ability to intervene with a
person at risk for suicide, gain insight for
interacting with survivors and identify referral
resources.
suicideTALK — An Exploration in Suicide Awareness
suicideTALK invites our community to be aware of
suicide prevention opportunities. This is 1½ to 2
hours and facilitated by a certified ASIST trainer
and allows for a maximum of 50 participants although
smaller groups are preferable.
safeTALK — Suicide Alertness for Everyone
safeTALK is a community-oriented suicide alertness
training that addresses “recognition and referral
gaps.” This training allows for up to 30
participants and lasts 2 to 4 hours. After
completion of safeTALK, participants will have the
ability to recognize a person at risk for suicide
and know how to connect them with a person trained
in suicide first aid intervention or similar
resources to keep the individual safe.
ASIST — Applied Suicide Intervention Skills
Training
ASIST is a community-oriented intervention skills
workshop targeted to community and professional
caregivers. This two-day workshop requires two
certified trainers and allows for 14-30
participants. The emphasis of ASIST is on suicide
first aid—helping the person at risk for suicide
stay safe and connect with further help. After
completion of ASIST, participants will be able to
recognize invitations for help, reach out and offer
support, review a risk of suicide, apply the Suicide
Intervention Model and link people with community
resources.
