(Former) Graduate Medical Education Task Force

Severe Shortage

Many Nevadans live in a primary care Health Professional Shortage Area, and nearly all Nevadans live in a mental Health Professional Shortage Area. Additionally, Nevada has a severe shortage of licensed health care specialists across the state, and many are forced to seek treatment out of state for specialty areas.

The original Graduate Medical Education Task Force was created by Executive Order in 2014 with the goal of developing recommendations for the 2015 Nevada Legislative Session. The Task Force provided a report of recommendations to the Governor on June 25, 2014, and in November 2015 the Task Force was re-established as an advisory body to provide recommendations on the allocation of funds approved by the Legislature. The Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (OSIT) manages the competitive grant program to distribute the funds.
