The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services and Common Ground Church will present Foster the Hope, a Christmas toy collection and panel discussion at 1 p.m. Dec. 5 at Common Ground Church in Carson City.
The panel will focus on how Nevada’s foster system works, while aiming to encourage people to become foster parents. Speakers including foster parents, former foster youth, social workers, and court specialists. They will discuss foster parent roles, keys to successful fostering, helping children handle trauma and working with the birth families.
The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is working to keep children who need to be in foster care in safe homes in familiar communities by recruiting foster parents in many Nevada rural counties. The Carson City District currently has 115 children in foster care.
In addition to the panel discussion, new, unwrapped toy and gift card donations will be accepted and distributed to Nevada foster children and families receiving services from DCFS. Donations are relied on to support foster children not only during the holidays, but also year-round.
