Today, Nevada Administrator of Welfare and Supportive Services, Steve Fisher announced the appointment of Candice McDaniel as Deputy Administrator of the Division of Welfare and Supportive Services effective today.
“I am pleased to appoint Candice as Deputy Administrator. Benefits and eligibility determination administered by DWSS are critical function for stabilizing Nevada’s communities,” said Administrator Fisher. “Candice comes with an array of education and experience in many areas within Health and Human Services, and I am confident her continued leadership and skillset will benefit Nevada’s people and communities.”
McDaniel has been serving as the Health Bureau Chief within the Division of Public and Behavioral Health, leading Nevada’s COVID-19 vaccination response. As a regular contributor to joint media conferences with Nevada COVID Response Director Caleb Cage, McDaniel has demonstrated leadership and clarity of vision.
Leading the largest public health bureau in the Division, she held responsibility for the Immunization Program, Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Program, Maternal and Child Health Program as well as the Women, Infants, and Children Supplemental Food Program.
She started with the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services in 2005 as an intern through the University of Nevada, Reno. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree and holds a graduate degree in human services. McDaniel has worked with the Aging and Disability Services Division and Director’s Office, in addition to public health.
As Deputy Administrator, McDaniel will be responsible for leading the Investigations and Recovery unit, the Program Review and Evaluation unit, the State Collections and Disbursement unit, the Child Care and Development unit, the Child Support Enforcement unit, and Administrative Services.
