Presentation will discuss opportunities for State service

Carson City, NV May 09, 2023

The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) is proud to recognize Dr. Leon Ravin for being selected as a presenter at the 2023 American Psychiatric Association (APA) Annual Meeting set for May 20-24 in San Francisco.

At the APA meeting, Dr. Ravin will present during the session “Navigating Career Paths for International Medical Graduates (IMGs): Charting Your Successful Future.” His presentation will highlight the opportunities that the Division of Public and Behavioral Health offers to psychiatrists who choose to dedicate their professional life to serving in public mental health services in the State of Nevada. This will be his second opportunity to present at an APA annual meeting.

Dr. Ravin has served as statewide psychiatric medical director since 2015. He has been the director of graduate and postgraduate medical education for the State Division of Public and Behavioral Health since 2012 while also teaching as a clinical professor for the University of Nevada School of Medicine. In 2013, Dr. Ravin joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) staff where he has served as a lead trainer for nearly 10 years. In that role he has helped train thousands of law enforcement officers for the agency and other jurisdictions.

“So many Nevadans are impacted by mental health needs, it is critical that we expand the number of mental health care professionals,” said Cody Phinney, DPBH administrator. “This is an excellent opportunity for Dr. Ravin to share career possibilities at DPBH and celebrate the important work mental health professionals are doing every day.”
