Carson City, NV May 23, 2024

Amos Hollar, Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program (PHP) Manager of the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH), was selected as the March 2024 Nevada Veteran Employee of the Month in honor of his service and contributions to the State of Nevada.

“Amos is a well-known and trusted partner in the public health, emergency preparedness, and emergency management arenas,” PHP Program Manager Donielle Allen said. “During the COVID pandemic, he was instrumental in community preparedness and response, included coordinating and delivering essential personal protective equipment (PPE), facilitating information sharing, and devising response plans throughout many public health emergencies.”

Retired Master Sergeant Hollar served for 22 years in the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman with the 1st Battalion 3rd Marines, the 1st Battalion 2nd Marines, and the 1st Battalion 5th Marines. He continued his military career as an instructor at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center. In 2013, Hollar retired from the Marines and joined DPBH.

In his role with DPBH, Hollar collaborates with emergency preparedness stakeholders and management partners throughout Nevada, with the goal of protecting public health. During his 10-year tenure, he has acted as a catalyst to ensure that first responders were prepared and equipped. Hollar has launched initiatives to address operations, equipment, response, and recovery for future emergencies.

Upon receiving the award, Hollar said, “My experience in the Marine Corps directly translated to the teamwork needed in Public Health Preparedness to overcome challenges and obstacles on a daily basis to better prepare for all of the hazards Nevada has faced over the years from flooding to disease outbreaks. It was critical during COVID to support the local entities and counties and get them the supplies they needed.”
