Carson City, NV September 03, 2024
The State Child Care and Development Program (CCDP) is returning to pre-pandemic eligibility, co-payments and waitlist effective Oct. 1, 2024.
This change follows the full utilization of federal and State COVID-19 relief funds.
“The increase in federal funds released during the pandemic allowed the subsidy program to be extended to families who would not have been eligible pre-COVID, which kept kids in quality child care programs so their caregivers could work or attend school,” said Karissa Machado, Agency Manager for the program. “The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services understands how important affordable, quality child care is, and we know these changes will impact Nevada’s working families.”
Income eligibility for child care subsidy assistance is based on an individual household’s size and annual income. Starting Oct. 1, the income eligibility level for new applicants will be 41% of state median income (SMI), meaning a family of four making up to $39,371/year will qualify for assistance.
Households submitting a renewal application will continue to be eligible for assistance if their income does not exceed 49% SMI, meaning the same family of four will continue to qualify for assistance if their income is at or below $47,053/year. Income and eligibility will not be re-evaluated until the current certificate is due for renewal and all active certificates will be honored through their expiration date.
A flat-rate copay, based on household size and income will also be implemented, ranging from $0 to $150 per month and current program recipients will not face income re-evaluation until their current certificate ends.
Returning to normal operating procedures includes returning to pre-pandemic eligibility and copay policies as well as maintaining a waitlist for new applicants when the caseload is at full capacity.
The CCDP will host a webinar on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 12 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. These sessions will offer an opportunity for parents, providers, and Child Care Resource & Referral agencies to learn about the changes. Visit the CCDP website for more information.
