The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services will hold its third annual Walk Us Home 5K and 3K for Foster Homes and Family Fair on May 10 at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King St. in Carson City.

The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services is the sole licensing agency for foster homes in Carson City and Nevada’s 14 rural counties.
About 60 foster homes in rural Nevada serve 400 young people in foster care. Although some counties in rural Nevada have as many as 14 foster homes, some counties have as few as one. When communities lack foster homes, children who need them are at risk of being displaced to outside communities.
The division gives children who cannot live with their birth families because of neglect or abuse, temporary, trauma-informed housing and care. The division’s foster program aims to place children near their homes and prepare them to reunite with their traditional families or relatives. Learn more about foster care at
